Project Results and Performance Snapshot

Over the past several years Terminis has executed large scale abandonment and remedial projects for a range of confidential operators across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia.

The examples below highlight how our engineering, coiled tubing methods, and program management deliver consistent results: wells completed on time, within tight budget tolerances, and with measurable reductions in liability.

Large-Scale Liability Reduction in Northeastern BC

Terminis was selected to lead a multi-year abandonment and decommissioning program for Pengrowth Energy Inc. (acquired by Strathcona Resources in 2020) after the BC Energy Regulator directed the operator to significantly reduce its long-standing liability. The project involved 347 suspended wells in Northeastern British Columbia, many of which had been inactive for more than a decade.

Terminis delivered an end-to-end abandonment management program, providing engineering, cost estimating, program development, wellsite and office supervision, and third-party contracting. Our team also oversaw facility decommissioning, equipment removal, and the sale of surplus assets — giving the operator both execution and financial efficiency.

Year 1 & 2 Results

During the 2020 commodity downturn, Terminis applied for — and secured — $2.25 million in Dormant Sites Reclamation Program funding, contributing 29.4% of Strathcona’s capital requirements for the 2021–2022 program years. This allowed the abandonment program to move forward aggressively despite market challenges.

Project Summaries From the Field

These snapshots highlight the consistency, precision, and accountability Terminis brings to large-scale abandonment and remedial programs across Western Canada. From reducing suspended well inventories to zero, to delivering complex multi-region campaigns within narrow budget tolerances, each project reflects our engineering-first approach and field-proven execution. The summaries below provide a transparent look at what we’ve delivered for a range of confidential operators.

Client A - Field Wide Abandonment and Mapping Program

For Client A, Terminis abandoned 242 wells on time and within three percent of budget. This program also included white mapping and planning for five shut in fields in north eastern British Columbia, giving the client clear visibility on timelines, costs, and remaining liability across the portfolio.

Client B - Reducing Suspended Well Count to Zero

For Client B, Terminis abandoned 231 wells, reducing the suspended well inventory to zero. Work was completed on time and on budget across multiple areas including Viking, Kinsella, Provost, Wainwright, Taber, Sylvan Lake, and into north eastern British Columbia. Remedial cementing was carried out through Terminis coiled tubing, improving precision and efficiency while controlling project spend.

Client C - Large Scale Abandonment Across Multiple Regions

For Client C, Terminis abandoned 475 wells within four percent of budget. Operations were conducted in Provost, Hayter, Consort, Lac La Biche, Marten Hills, and Sylvan Lake. As with other programs, remedial cementing was performed through Terminis coiled tubing, ensuring consistent plug quality and long term well integrity.

Client D - Tight Budget Control in North Eastern British Columbia

For Client D, Terminis completed 88 wells in north eastern British Columbia within two percent of budget. Our coiled tubing based remedial cementing program allowed the operator to meet regulatory expectations while maintaining strict control over cost and schedule.

Client E - Program Delivery in North Western Alberta

For Client E, Terminis abandoned 98 wells in north western Alberta, completing the work within five percent of budget. Remedial cementing was again delivered through Terminis coiled tubing, providing a repeatable and efficient approach across varied well conditions.
